The Vermont Adventures

Hello fellow travelersI have been out and about for a while, and come to you bringing new gifts of fun. I have been to some new places in Vermont, new experiences, beer, and other oddities. I had a great time while I was in the Burlington, VT area, lots of rest and relaxation, good food, amazing beers, great experiences. Plus, I have been frequenting a location here that I would like to highlight in the next post, that is later. Overall, some new brews and excitement to be had.

My trip into Vermont was wonderful, traveled into New Hampshire where we went for lunch at Murphy's Taproom a little pub style bar in Manchester, NH and a beer that was local to that area. The food was great, their Ruben sandwich is amazing, not sure if that was due to how hungry I was or not.

Next, we drove into Burlington, VT, this was an interesting sight, a wonderful small town right next to lake Champlain, where apparently, Ethan Allen was stationed and was a local hero, not sure why though, could have been all those furniture stores he opened. Anyways, one of the main areas there is Church Street, this is a town square filled with shops and home to some great pubs. The Church Street Tavern has some great outside seating as well as some awesome food. There is also Sweetwaters, which has some decent food. There are all sorts of shops and eateries in the area as well.

The best part of that area are the farms and the local Farmer's Market. This market was one of the best I have seen. Lots of great produce and interesting crafts. Cheese and Maple syrup are a main stay in that area and are wonderful. Shelbourne Farms is one of the places we went, where they have an awesome actual working farm. Great food and great cheese. The main house has a bar and seating areas, as well as a beautiful flower garden. I enjoy taking some good nature photos as well guys.

The beauty of this was great. I had a great time while I was there. With some of the best pictures and scenery I have had in a while. The carvings of the heads were a little creepy though.

Also, on Wednesday, there is a great little place called JP's Pub that has karaoke and it is great, the people there are fun and it has a real atmosphere for karaoke. It seems small, but you can have a great time there. We stayed longer than we thought we would, but had a blast. You can find them on Facebook to check the times they are open with the link above.

I think I added some extra weight with the beer selections that I will have to work off. If you get a chance try some of the local brews like Long Trail, also Magic Hat is brewed right there in Burlington, and you can get a tour of the brewery, didn't get a chance, maybe later. There were also some others that were real good. Plus, if you go to The Whiskey Room, there is a local whiskey that you can get that is real smooth.

Had a great time, met some real great people and good food. As always, there are good drinks and friends to be found, keep your eyes and ears open. Have fun, and always tip the ones that serve you.

Camping: Low Cost Fun

So, I bought a tent recently, set it up to make sure that it works and has no faults. I am getting excited about getting to use it this summer and later. I remember times with my family out and camping, from the Big Bend State Parks to Garner State Park in the Hill Country of Texas. I look back and realize those times are the ones I remember. My point here is as a family getting out can get expensive, especially for vacation, this can help those expensive hotels and make it fun. Here are some things that you can do that will make those times memorable.
First, there are many campsites close to great places to go. Austin, San Antonio, Corpus Christi, Dallas, there are many camping areas that can make these trips fun, go just outside the area and see some great scenery and make for beautiful family pictures. Check in your local area by going to your local state Parks and Recreation Services, they will have listings of where to go, rates, contacts, maps and things to do while in the park. If you get adventurous, go to the people at some of the other campsites and meet them, you would be surprised who you will meet, bring some extra desert and I am sure people will be very friendly.
Second, some of the supplies you will need are not as specialized as it looks. You will at least need a tent, sleeping bag or blow up mattress and sheets, cooking gear (if needed), flashlight or lantern. Some of these things can be found at your local dollar store, they have great plastic ware that you can get for a few dollars and not have to spend a lot. You can also find pots and pans there for cheap. Also a can opener, a small hammer, a knife, and waterproof matches are some things that you will want to include. If you can't find or think that the waterproof matches are too expensive, you can get a candle, let the wax melt and lightly dip the ends in the wax. Also, a first aid kit is a good idea for anything that might happen while out and about. There are items that are designed for camping, they can be expensive though. you might want to make a checklist of things that you need to make sure that you don't forget anything.
Third and finally, Have fun, bring things that the family can do together, even a card game can be fun under the stars, s'mores are another fun thing to get, as well as just being together. Check the local weather where you are going to be staying and have fun. Bring a radio if any weather is around so you can listen to updates.
So, remember, make reservations, find places close by to camp, make sure you bring everything you need, and have fun. Camping can be fun if you know what to do and how to do it. There are so many family memories that can be made by simple expeditions and other exciting things. Explore the area and be careful if you are bringing the little ones. Hope to see everyone out and about.

The Start

Well This is the start of my interesting thought and blog. This is going to be interesting in that I always have ideas, yet I tend to expand upon them and then have to change everything. This is an expansion of my other blog, yet I think this one will give more freedom to do what I want. Here it is in all its glory.
I am hoping to be doing some thoughts on what to do during the seasons, also where to go and how to save some money while doing things. Keep me in and posted. Feel free to comment and give ideas and subscribe to keep an eye on me.
